External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to embark on a visit to the United Kingdom from November 11 to 15 for discussions with British leadership to enhance bilateral relations.
This visit occurs against the backdrop of prolonged negotiations between India and the UK on a free trade agreement (FTA). The two nations have already missed a deadline for finalizing the trade deal, leading to intense negotiations in recent weeks to resolve differences on key issues such as tariffs, market access, and labor mobility.
The Ministry of External Affairs, in its announcement of Jaishankar’s visit on Saturday, underscored the growing bilateral partnership between India and the UK. During his visit, Jaishankar is scheduled to engage in discussions with his counterpart, Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, and meet various other dignitaries.
India and the UK enjoy a “warm and thriving relationship,” as evidenced by the launch of the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2021, alongside the India-UK Roadmap 2030, outlining plans for advancing cooperation in trade, investment, defense, and security.
The ministry emphasized that the Roadmap signifies a commitment to a partnership that benefits both countries. Jaishankar’s visit is anticipated to inject renewed momentum into the friendly ties between India and the UK.
