In the 2023 Cricket World Cup, Afghanistan’s journey continued to dazzle. Under the leadership of Hashmatullah Shahidi, the Afghanistan team demonstrated that their victory over defending champions England was no mere stroke of luck. They continued their success by outclassing the Pakistan team. This victory was a comfortable one for Afghanistan, propelling them to the sixth position in the Cricket World Cup points table. Notably, this was the first time Afghanistan had ever defeated Pakistan in ODIs.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65), Ibrahim Zadran (87), and Rahmat Shah (77)* were the stars of the batting lineup, spearheading Afghanistan’s commanding upset triumph.

Ibrahim Zadran, who played a pivotal role in the victory, dedicated his Player of the Match award to his fellow countrymen and Afghans facing deportation from Pakistan. The fan voiced, “This is a significant step for our team, and I hope Afghanistan reaches the Semi-Finals. They (Pakistan) should not mistreat us; there should be a more humane approach to this issue. Ibrahim Zadran has dedicated this victory to those who are currently facing hardships and need support.
