Hamas has pledged to resist Israel’s military actions with unwavering determination as Israel escalates its air and ground offensives in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian authority governing Gaza has reported its militants engaging in combat with Israeli forces near the border, following Israel’s intensification of attacks in the region. The prolonged disruption of internet and phone services in Gaza, lasting for over 12 hours, was a direct result of Israeli bombardments.
Furthermore, Israeli military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari hinted at the potential of a ground invasion, as he mentioned that ground forces were expanding their operations. Israel’s air force also intensified its strikes on Hamas’ tunnels and various facilities. Israel claimed the assassination of Hamas’ air chief, Asem Abu Rakaba, who was allegedly responsible for planning an attack on October 7 that resulted in the loss of over 1,400 lives in Israel. According to Israel, Abu Rakaba led the group of assailants who used paragliders to launch drone attacks on IDF posts.
Hamas reported clashes between its fighters and Israeli troops in Beit Hanoun and Al-Bureij within Gaza. In a resolute tone, they stated that “Netanyahu and his defeated army will not win this war,” directly addressing Israel’s Prime Minister.
Israeli forces had amassed at the Gaza border, where they had been conducting extensive bombing operations since the October 7 attack. Israel claimed that approximately 1,400 people, primarily civilians, lost their lives, with more than 200 individuals taken hostage, including some who held foreign or dual citizenship. Palestinian health officials reported that Israeli bombings had resulted in the tragic loss of over 7,000 Palestinian lives.
