Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently visiting Himachal Pradesh’s Lepcha to observe Diwali with security personnel, expressed that a place where Army personnel are stationed is of great significance to him, akin to a temple.
During his address to the soldiers, Modi acknowledged the global circumstances leading to increased expectations from India. Dressed in Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) fatigues, he emphasized the vital role of the armed forces in safeguarding India’s borders and maintaining peace within the country during these critical times.
Modi stated, “India remains protected as long as my bravehearts stand on the borders like the Himalayas,” expressing gratitude for the dedication and victories of the armed forces in the face of challenges.
Recognizing the sacrifice of being away from family during festivals, Modi commended the soldiers for their commitment to duty and conveyed the country’s indebtedness to them. On the occasion of Diwali, he symbolically dedicated a “diya” to their safety and included them in every prayer for well-being.
Reflecting on his longstanding tradition of celebrating Diwali with the armed forces, Modi shared, “For the past 30-35 years, there has not been a Diwali that I have not celebrated with you. Even when I was neither the PM nor the CM, I celebrated Diwali among you in border areas.”
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, a leader from the Congress party, extended Diwali wishes, expressing a desire for India to be illuminated with truth, justice, and love. President Droupadi Murmu and Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer also conveyed warm greetings, emphasizing the festive occasion’s potential to inspire peace, amity, brotherhood, and communal harmony.
Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy highlighted the symbolic significance of Diwali, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and wisdom over ignorance. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge extended Diwali greetings, hoping for happiness, peace, and prosperity for everyone.
Diwali, celebrated on the 15th day of the month of Kartik, is a festival symbolizing the triumph of light and goodness over darkness and evil.
