“Sustainable Diwali Sparks: Adani Electricity Shines with 100% Renewable Power for Mumbai’s Festival Glow!”

Mumbai-based power utility company Adani Electricity declared on Monday that it relied entirely on renewable sources to provide power to Mumbai for four hours on Diwali day. Between 10 AM and 2 PM, Adani Electricity delivered 1,200 MW of power from renewable sources to its 3 million subscribers, ensuring that over 40 per cent of the financial capital’s power requirements were met with sustainable energy.

Despite the financial capital’s peak demand exceeding 2,500 MW in the morning and reaching 2,776 MW in the evening, Adani Electricity’s strategic planning ensured a smooth transition to renewable sources during this timeframe.

Mumbai, currently grappling with pollution concerns and striving to improve air quality, receives a significant portion of its power from neighboring areas. In response to environmental considerations, state authorities have called on a competing power generation company to reduce particulate matter emissions from its plant.

In a proactive move, Adani Electricity sourced power from solar and wind generation for this initiative, highlighting its dedication to sustainability. Managing Director Kandarp Patel stated, “Achieving 100 per cent renewable energy is a first and a significant milestone in Mumbai’s energy transition, demonstrating that renewables can significantly power Mumbai city with reliable and sustainable electricity at competitive tariffs.”

The company disclosed that 38 per cent of the power supplied to consumers in 2023 is from renewable sources and reaffirmed its commitment to increasing this to 60 per cent by 2027. PTI A
